Man Of Steel

Man of Steel Poster -2013

This is different.

You'll notice that the last poster for a Superman film had a completely different image.

Marvel Now Avengers # 4

Avengers #4 out in January

I love super hero characters based on other super hero characters. I am not sure why. I just do. So when I saw preview art for Marvel Comics Avengers #4 and saw that Hyperion is going to be a focus I literally jumped up and cheered.

Marvel Comics much like DC Comics has an endless supply of alternate universes and with every story that Hyperion appears he is some other version of the character. And it looks like what we have here is yet another take on Marvel’s version of the Man of Steel.

And I am fine with that.

Mainly because I would love to see how the Marvel Universe would react to Superman. A true take on that idea. Not some story where Hyperion is used as a bad guy or as a way to show Thor taking down Superman. No, rather I would love to see Hyperion used as Superman to see how he would truly interact with The Avengers.

Will that be the idea? Who knows

But I can dream can’t I?

Hyperion and Thor hang out in Avengers #4

Bond's Back

See what I did there???

Skyfall is already considered one of if not the best entry in the James Bond series. Not bad for it’s 23rd film. However, it’s a lie, it’s a clever lie but it’s a lie. It’s a lie because this isn't a James Bond film. Oh sure with characters like Q and Moneypenny rounding out the cast and seeing Bond drive his Aston Martins to the now 50 year old James Bond theme you would think you were watching a 007 film. However, what you are watching in Skyfall is too rich with story to be considered a true James Bond film.

Skyfall is not about an invincible super agent tracking down an uber-terrorist with plans to over take the world with nukes. No, rather it’s about an ageing bruised and beaten substance abusing orphan who was betrayed by his pseudo parent. And yet when her life is threatened the man-child puts aside his anger to protect the woman he considers to be his mother.

That’s what Skyfall is about.

I loved every minute of this film.

Superman

Are you reading Superman??

You should, because now is a great time to be a Superman fan

Action Comics continues to be a great read and a top seller
Superman (as of issue 13) is now a worthy 2nd title
Superman Earth One: Vol Two came out last week and is er um interesting,
Both the Superboy and Supergirl title are great reads on their own but starting this month they tie into the H'el on Earth story line which will carry one for a big multi month epic arch
and later this year just before the new film comes out a new Man of Steel title will debut

my two cents

Rise of The Guardians

Really looking forward to this

That's all

Superman: Earth One

I am going to start this post by saying I have not yet read the second volume, but I plan too. Looking forward to it as well.

Why?

Because I am a Superman fan. A real fan. Sure I have read stories and watched movies that I didn’t like, but I am not someone who throws their arms up in the air yelling to the sky (or the internet) every time the powers-that-be  do something I don’t like or understand.

Before The New 52, Superman: Earth One was the first real attempt to create a Superman for the new century. I liked what I think most fans liked, that this story was separate from all the other books.  The best part of the whole story was the newspaper interview at the end.  That was worth the price alone.

When it comes to Superman fans I enjoy seeing how people react when they announce, well, anything. For Earth One I don’t think there was too much to discuss. Nothing really major was added or taken way, save for how Krypton meet her demise. No one involved in creating the story really pushed the envelope.  So over all Earth One was a safe bet.

However, when looking at Superman in the New 52 there is a lot to discuss. The sales don’t lie so unfortunately for those who are not happy with this new Man of Steel, you are going to have to deal.

I like most of what I am reading. The basics are all there so something silly as what he’s wearing doesn’t bother me. When I saw the new suit I said as long as it has meaning I will be fine with whatever they do. Does this mean I prefer armor over red trunks? Thinking about Superman wearing armor is just as ridiculous as anything else he does. I like the way it looks, most artists don’t even draw it to look like armor. So whatever.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the second volume of Superman: Earth One. I will probably read it after I give Superman #13 another read.

Have a nice weekend.
